I am not pleased with the recent direction that Blogger has taken so I have packed up and moved to:<br />

<br />
I will leave my blog intact here for the time being.<br />

Come on over to the new location and take a look.Silverthimblehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17921807595542164387noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-20451069.post-57263248083575023552012-12-16T19:05:00.001-08:002012-12-16T19:24:09.232-08:00Patience Corners Christmas Quilt - Finished <div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
This is my latest quilt finish--my Christmas Patience Corners Quilt. Last night I put the last of the stitches in the binding. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
See this post back in 2010 for details about this quilt:</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<a href="http://silverthimblequilting.blogspot.ca/2010/12/patience-corners-christmas-quilt-flimsy.html">http://silverthimblequilting.blogspot.ca/2010/12/patience-corners-christmas-quilt-flimsy.html</a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Yes that is the resident quilt inspector perched up there on top of the quilt. I barely got the quilt on the bed and he was up there inspecting it.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
By the way, the headboard on the bed is new--made by my husband. It is nice to have a proper place for the clock radio, and my books. The new headboard was necessary to keep the pillows from getting pushed between the headboard and the mattress.</div>

<br />
Before leaving for my Arizona holiday in November, I finished quilting LindaJ's (<a href="http://catsnqlts2.blogspot.ca/2012/12/good-day.html">http://catsnqlts2.blogspot.ca/2012/12/good-day.html</a>) Patience Corners quilt and had it in the mail back to her. It was a lot of fun quilting Linda's quilt as I recognized the fabrics in her quilt that had come from my collection.<br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
1.) I entered a total of 14 quilts in this show. <strong><em>Got Stripes</em></strong> is 99.5" x 115.5". The Pattern is by Terry Atkinson from Terry's Time Out Quilts book. This quilt is part of a collection of quilts gifted to my daughter and her husband on the occasion of their wedding on September 1, 2012.</div>

This is a closeup of <strong><em>JR1600</em></strong>. This quilt is 47.5" x 62". This quilt still belongs to me! The pattern for this quilt can be found on You Tube. The online quilting group that I belong to--the FABs--celebrated each quilter's birthday in 2011 with an online birthday party. This quilt was assembled during Pam's birthday party. After the presents were opened, we were on to the rest of the party. Pam and Cher used commercial Jelly Rolls and Linda, Pat, and I used strips cut from our own stash. After joining 40 - 2.5" strips end to end you have 1,600 inches of fabric. Take the end of your strip and match it with the beginning of your strip and put the pedal to the metal and sew! You will be working on one long seam--800 inches long. You repeat this 5 times and you end up with a lap sized quilt. There is to be no pressing of seams until the top is done. The women on the video claimed to be making their tops in 35 minutes. It took longer than 35 minutes for me to complete my first seam! After sewing my top together I thought my top needed something more. All the green fabrics looked like a lawn to me so I thought about adding some bugs. After the quilting was finished, I appliqued the 5 ladybugs to the top--one ladybug for each FAB.<br />

11.) This is the quilt that I finished recently--<strong><em>Fall Rail Fence</em></strong>. This quilt finished at 68" x 86" and was inspired by a quilt on the cover of the January 1999 issue of Traditional Quilter. The quilt in the magazine was called, Christmas Village and had a border of foundation pieced houses and trees on it. I started this quilt in 1999 and by the time I got around to finishing it recently, I decided that I no longer liked the border that was on the quilt in the pattern so I replace the pieced border with this green/sunflower print. <br />

12.) This quilt literally came right off our bed before it was hung in the show. This quilt is 95.5" x 103.5" and is called, <strong><em>Rooster Twist</em></strong>. The name of the quilt pattern is Strip Twist and is by G.E. Designs. I belong to a group of on-line quilters called the FABs. One member is from Wisconsin, two members are from Oregon, another member is from Alabama, and then there is myself. Although we had quilted together on line since 2006, only a few of us had met in person before we got together for a retreat in 2009. We had a great time--each of us piecing together our own version of this quilt. Friendships were bonded together forever that weekend and we continue to quilt together most weekends thanks to MSN and e-mails.<br />

13.) This is a small version--61.5" x 72.5"--of a larger bed size quilt that I made, <strong><em>All About Halloween. </em></strong>This is another Terry Atkinson pattern--All About Me. 14.) This is the last quilt that I entered in our quilt show this year. This quilt is <strong><em>Halloween contemporized Country Squares</em></strong> and measures 73" x 85". This pattern is by The Stitchery in Olds, Alberta. While attending a family reunion near Olds, Alberta in August 2010, I had an opportunity to visit a local quilt shop called The Stichery. I fell in love with the samples of this quilt that they had hanging in the shop and purchased my own copy of the pattern from the mother/daughter team that designed the pattern. This pattern was perfect for my Halloween scrap collection. This quilt was gifted to my daughter and her husband after the quilt show and was a healthyy alternative to trick or treat candy.<br />

By the end of the show, I was exhausted. It is always a lot of work to put on a show like this. However, it is all worth it when you receive the positive comments from the public like we did. Tonight we trimmed the second tree in our front yard. I can't believe how many times <a name='more'></a>we filled the back of the truck with tree limbs before we cleaned up all that mess! We have definitely reduced the amount of raking we will have to do later this fall!<br />Silverthimblehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17921807595542164387noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-20451069.post-14893021814697019302012-10-08T14:57:00.001-07:002012-10-22T17:43:04.826-07:00Thanksgiving<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

Today is Thanksgiving Day in Canada. We had our turkey dinner last night. I like to have our turkey on<a name='more'></a> the Sunday of Thanksgiving Weekend so that the kids do not have to worry about fighting traffic when they go to head home at the end of the evening. Also, it is nice to have the holiday Monday to relax after the preparation of that big meal the day before.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
We have had exceptionally good weather for quite some time. Chilliwack has recorded the driest August in 82 years and the driest September in more than 133 years since the start of weather records in 1879. In September we had just 6.6 mm of rain which all fell overnight on September 10 and 11. The 30 year average for rainfall for August is 64.8 mm and for September is 112.7 mm. The last day of significant rainfall for us was July 23. Further temperature records that were broken were 31.8 degrees on September 8 and 30.5 degrees on September 17.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Because of the fantastic weather, we were able to enjoy our Thanksgiving dinner outside. This will likely be our last picnic in the backyard for the season.</div>

Some people will go to great lengths to not have to rake leaves!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Today, my husband decided that<a name='more'></a> the Japanese Maple tree in the front yard had to be trimmed. The leaves on this tree turn the most beautiful red in the fall of the year. <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
This is a picture of my husband trimming the branches. I am sure that tree was crying as the branches fell to the ground!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
This photo was taken November 16, 2008 and shows the beautiful red leaves as they are falling to the ground.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
This next picture was taken November 5, 2006. This picture shows how large the tree had grown and how much of the yard was being overtaken by the tree.</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
This picture shows our house just after we moved in - November 1988. You can see the tree to the left of the photo - just a bit bigger than a stick in the ground. That is our son holding the shovel (ready to help Dad pull out the Spreading Junipers next to the drive way) and our daughter in the stroller. In the lower right hand corner of the picture are my husband and our faithful German Shepherd cross--Marlo. Boy, this picture takes me back!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
And my favorite picture involving this tree was taken November 2, 2001. This is my daughter and our German Shepherd--King. Dana was raking leaves that year and raked them into a heart shape before filling up the bags with leaves. The heart shape was not so evident in the picture but I remember how distinctive it looked from the front room window. True love--a girl and her dog!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

My husband tells me that the tree will forgive us for the severe pruning and it will recover. ......I sure hope so!<br />

This weekend is a long weekend in most provinces in Canada. Monday is BC Day here in British Columbia. I used one of my annual leave days from work and made it an extra long weekend--4 days. That extra day proved to be a very productive day. I finished this quilt to a flimsy. Today, I will be loading it on the long arm and I will start the quilting. The colouring in the photo is off--it looks blue, but it is really purple.<br />

This quilt is called Butterfly Trails from Terry Atkinson's book, Time Out Quilts. This quilt is lap size--finishing at 63" x 77". I love Terry's quilt sizing. So many patterns say they are lap size but they are really no bigger than something that would cover your legs if you were sitting down. Terry's quilt sizing is generous--when Terry says lap size, you know you will have something you can cover up with when you are having a nap on the couch with enough quilt to wrap generously around your feet.Silverthimblehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17921807595542164387noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-20451069.post-73054999981493813522012-05-13T23:00:00.000-07:002012-06-27T06:11:55.425-07:00Mother's Day - 2012<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">

This was the perfect way to spend time on Mother's Day!Silverthimblehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17921807595542164387noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-20451069.post-66543308811642459002012-05-05T21:03:00.000-07:002012-06-26T21:07:51.113-07:00Memories<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Both of our kids are getting married this year. Our son is getting married on June 17 and our daughter is getting married on September 1. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Both kids are planning slide shows to be shown during their wedding receptions. Because they needed pictures of themselves as they were growing up, we spent the better part of a weekend going through old photos and scanning them into the computer. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Going through these pictures brought back many happy memories for me. These are some of my favorites.</div>

Today was our daughter's birthday. Although she has moved out on her own, she still wanted to come home for her birthday celebration. When our kids were growing up, it was tradition that the birthday person got to pick the menu. Some of the menus that the kids came up with may have been a bit strange with things that you wouldn't normally put together in the same meal, but because it was their day, they were allowed to make up any combination that they wanted. So, today, according to our family tradition, our daughter got to pick the menu: tacos, orange fluff salad, cold cuts, lemonade, and carrot cake.<br />

I guess it doesn't matter how old they get, kids still gravitate back to their roots and traditions and the comforts of home. These two wall hangings form part of a pattern called, Seasons Redwork that has been designed by Paula Stoddard of Pacific Patchwork. Back in 2009, these blocks were released by Paula as a BOM on her Quilt Happy, Quilt Often Blog. Paula's blog has been discontinued, but the blocks can be purchased from her website: <a href="http://www.pacificpatchwork.com/Seasons_Redwork_p/ppw-320.htm">http://www.pacificpatchwork.com/Seasons_Redwork_p/ppw-320.htm</a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">Paula's pattern shows all four seasons as part of the same wall hanging. I preferred to stitch the four seasons individually and frame the blocks with fabric that relates to that season. My plan is to change out the wall hangings in my kitchen with the seasons.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">Each wall hanging finishes at 10.5" x 26".</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />

Each shop was giving away the pattern for a block. All of the shops made all 13 blocks and put them together in unique quilt settings. Seeing all of the quilts was like a mini quilt show. This was Tangled Threads' quilt:<br />

These are the fabrics that were in the "kit" that Cher sent last year after she attended the annual quilt show in Sisters, Oregon. This panel was the official fabric for the 2011 Sisters Quilt Show, and is called "Nature's Symphony", by Kathy Deggendorfer. Cher challenged each of the FABs to make a quilt using this panel and the other kit fabrics that she sent us. <br />

</div>I may have found a new addiction--cat fabrics. While at Tangled Threads I found these three cat themed fat quarters. They seemed to call out to me so I brought them home. I also found some teeny tiny black buttons that my Mom and I might be able to use in our snowman blue work blocks. (We seem to be French Knot phobic! LOL)<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">The pattern in the photo is called, Field of Flowers, and is by a Canadian artist from DJ Richards Designs. </div>My second stop was also in Lynden at Calico Country.<br />
<br />

This is Calico Country's quilt using the shop hop blocks.<br />

</div>I found the perfect cat fabric at Calico Country. This fabric is from Loralie Designs and is called, "Spice Cats." <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjd2Mfju9oyddMctrN5vBgwPFOOkw8OGkyPREuF_KkuNfokc5GyErE6rIOzrSLRj-_RMLgZ8lRkxo0DI9IHCKuuydUa9EPzIn8R1MAthAj44CkuTedTMN83IGwmE__0Rs52kD9SsQ/s1600/DSC_0312.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="212" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjd2Mfju9oyddMctrN5vBgwPFOOkw8OGkyPREuF_KkuNfokc5GyErE6rIOzrSLRj-_RMLgZ8lRkxo0DI9IHCKuuydUa9EPzIn8R1MAthAj44CkuTedTMN83IGwmE__0Rs52kD9SsQ/s320/DSC_0312.JPG" width="320" /></a></div><br />
The third shop I visited was, Folktales, also located in Lynden. <a href="http://folktalesfabricshop.blogspot.ca/">http://folktalesfabricshop.blogspot.ca/</a><br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgnBAiJdHJD1ehWOLnnWmvKYIJIjp67jn56AWmbdSvt5E5WKt-iisn3GT5UuPBLPHLtEgrBvpVgJ8-ON3BXCElZu5Mp1c-rVsU5j4pMV-AwH7ueozPOo7OXoQpyFW8gH_lP2lynwA/s1600/DSCN1562.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="239" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgnBAiJdHJD1ehWOLnnWmvKYIJIjp67jn56AWmbdSvt5E5WKt-iisn3GT5UuPBLPHLtEgrBvpVgJ8-ON3BXCElZu5Mp1c-rVsU5j4pMV-AwH7ueozPOo7OXoQpyFW8gH_lP2lynwA/s320/DSCN1562.JPG" width="320" /></a></div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />

This was Folktales' version of the shop hop quilt. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiagdm9hRXf7u16ixX7SNO9-oJA-OgMT5AEVjhZ0R9Vllz8lFVVtvAcMsQZnxKahLt3QFIHm8zyQeTmUPosK1EPaBpBDy2h7u9_YSWbbAKpi-ZEvkM35naDK0YKiNksOhIDC5lqcA/s1600/DSCN1565.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiagdm9hRXf7u16ixX7SNO9-oJA-OgMT5AEVjhZ0R9Vllz8lFVVtvAcMsQZnxKahLt3QFIHm8zyQeTmUPosK1EPaBpBDy2h7u9_YSWbbAKpi-ZEvkM35naDK0YKiNksOhIDC5lqcA/s320/DSCN1565.JPG" width="261" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />
</div>I came across this cute panel at Folktales. It was on sale for less than half price, so I brought home two. If one is good, then two must be better, right?<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg9dE_mHKBzTS5yp57pi0c6gRnzZ7bqoRNCjoPwfzwu0o2_gw0zxCsNMqfwNYgPqS_AegfoOZKmX6T37qVgM-fKWFXvCZvAUhNNtRyk9zM6td6YuByzA0lH8ApFZer7JLoPnQe_jQ/s1600/DSC_0313.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg9dE_mHKBzTS5yp57pi0c6gRnzZ7bqoRNCjoPwfzwu0o2_gw0zxCsNMqfwNYgPqS_AegfoOZKmX6T37qVgM-fKWFXvCZvAUhNNtRyk9zM6td6YuByzA0lH8ApFZer7JLoPnQe_jQ/s320/DSC_0313.JPG" width="257" /></a></div><br />
I also found small black buttons - a little bigger than the buttons that I had bought at Tangled Threads. This cute Easter stitchery pattern also came home with me--Easter Stack by Kassie Moen.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEih_myEqkjgx7LuHUTLWt_THKVRz1YRUw0RmcrllXRmARqGWdSbEOUiw0Pa8xA00tsO7W6BZVKGyKq9U7QlpBS0UqAzXhPLVLtBIRrFCC4WwUpd3z_fMB8GpAtKcv-mXj-Zy67NAA/s1600/DSC_0315.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="308" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEih_myEqkjgx7LuHUTLWt_THKVRz1YRUw0RmcrllXRmARqGWdSbEOUiw0Pa8xA00tsO7W6BZVKGyKq9U7QlpBS0UqAzXhPLVLtBIRrFCC4WwUpd3z_fMB8GpAtKcv-mXj-Zy67NAA/s320/DSC_0315.JPG" width="320" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />
</div>This was the shop sample of Easter Stack. The woman who stitched this sample was in the shop when I was there and told me that she used Crayola Crayons to colour her fabric, not chalk as had been used in the pattern. I prefer the look of the crayons myself.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhy6-c3d9SNbG6VYeO7z6QqruyPcL-cMiMwuBwXEOb5KS3kfR08dYTsu9WgxBbIQE9mj1kIRf6ia9VWfJ3YVKw_EdchJ0XXzgTLp3B2S1r56bnwJjQQMz3OGQVU4SQzEdCjEmYQow/s1600/DSCN1566.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhy6-c3d9SNbG6VYeO7z6QqruyPcL-cMiMwuBwXEOb5KS3kfR08dYTsu9WgxBbIQE9mj1kIRf6ia9VWfJ3YVKw_EdchJ0XXzgTLp3B2S1r56bnwJjQQMz3OGQVU4SQzEdCjEmYQow/s320/DSCN1566.JPG" width="115" /></a></div><br />
That was it for quilt shops in Lynden. I then headed down the highway to Bellingham where I stopped at Fabric Etc.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiWFEEuvqj3q70ZWbLN9LCe18DDntBOxHXiRjvkHbEpb8PRrG8goCEG9ZH4-BEebQon4LO_4uZtuBlsnu4akR5rBX37hqHId_mkIH6_F-QNoMerWfpBrzVxRQM7Zb7XohbMhQXopQ/s1600/DSCN1567.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="182" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiWFEEuvqj3q70ZWbLN9LCe18DDntBOxHXiRjvkHbEpb8PRrG8goCEG9ZH4-BEebQon4LO_4uZtuBlsnu4akR5rBX37hqHId_mkIH6_F-QNoMerWfpBrzVxRQM7Zb7XohbMhQXopQ/s320/DSCN1567.JPG" width="320" /></a></div><br />
This was Fabric Etc's version of the shop hop quilt. They added the name of each shop that participated in the shop hop above the door on the house that featured that shop's block.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhjKJbsRaA_aqGrMBi5RzeIkv10pW2nEvC1kwLHSyNwIyD8P1qrrXecgMv_S44O0_-hiW3de2THO7aeSj_jS4Ubskc3f4KVDSnvsHtewHT0i6T5Y3nf-ptfl25pghCdAXG7gEaKOw/s1600/DSCN1568.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="316" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhjKJbsRaA_aqGrMBi5RzeIkv10pW2nEvC1kwLHSyNwIyD8P1qrrXecgMv_S44O0_-hiW3de2THO7aeSj_jS4Ubskc3f4KVDSnvsHtewHT0i6T5Y3nf-ptfl25pghCdAXG7gEaKOw/s320/DSCN1568.JPG" width="320" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">I found some fabric that looked like a box of chocolates at Fabric Etc. I plan on using this fabric on the border of a second Valentine's panel like the one I just finished. I also picked up a coordinating brown fabric as I don't have much in the way of brown in my stash. The gal in the shop called this a rich brown, not a "wimpy" brown. LOL</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjGvT0lRZwagW7YrsI_Nl1LqLfhisCbxvUvZFXX-yoM7M8CpF_6cg82d8Ey2DeHZpa9k5aZRyPJg8ugneWLHwL8EfpPSWwR3B5TSpwb5lfe6IJZGqZ_CuWIve9ey18wLSmBX400Rg/s1600/DSC_0316.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="212" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjGvT0lRZwagW7YrsI_Nl1LqLfhisCbxvUvZFXX-yoM7M8CpF_6cg82d8Ey2DeHZpa9k5aZRyPJg8ugneWLHwL8EfpPSWwR3B5TSpwb5lfe6IJZGqZ_CuWIve9ey18wLSmBX400Rg/s320/DSC_0316.JPG" width="320" /></a></div><br />
The next stop was Fourth Corner Quilts. This is the side of the shop that you see as you approach the shop from the road. You have to pull in off the busy street and park in the rear of the shop.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi1Qp4qeGRA_h0nWkwDUUxV5HLC8nBXTRaeHvB30Ifx5JXBD5k5fBOd_v0aaXfz61ph1kOfIN-59LaTBU_aOxNwkx7w8ezeL_k968Ik60VtQ4VEve2nZeDA-pPgBAPHpqsgUPjnNg/s1600/DSCN1573.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="186" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi1Qp4qeGRA_h0nWkwDUUxV5HLC8nBXTRaeHvB30Ifx5JXBD5k5fBOd_v0aaXfz61ph1kOfIN-59LaTBU_aOxNwkx7w8ezeL_k968Ik60VtQ4VEve2nZeDA-pPgBAPHpqsgUPjnNg/s320/DSCN1573.JPG" width="320" /></a></div><br />
This is the view around the corner where you park and enter the shop.<br />

This is Fourth Corner's version of the shop hop quilt. Fourth Corner's block is the Maple Leaf block. All of the blocks are arranged in the shape of a tree, symbolic of all the trees in the Pacific Northwest. You can't see it in this picture but the background quilting contained many images of things you might see in the Pacific Northwest like birds.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEimbW0NCEeFA9VLUvxEFOK8kfSZChh1D4FhfRxgjjJIzVK6tlyRbDRBEsyRJ8eVYa_KlvHTAtsCY7FlqgWzeAEilnP13Ws5qwQNl5ySK68xkVtUxRdLzVNRFDoKoA39TC5IpoIeWQ/s1600/DSCN1570.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEimbW0NCEeFA9VLUvxEFOK8kfSZChh1D4FhfRxgjjJIzVK6tlyRbDRBEsyRJ8eVYa_KlvHTAtsCY7FlqgWzeAEilnP13Ws5qwQNl5ySK68xkVtUxRdLzVNRFDoKoA39TC5IpoIeWQ/s320/DSCN1570.JPG" width="240" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">I found Mardi Gras fabric on the back Fourth Corner's sale shelf. When I was in New Orleans in 2010, I was unable to find a quilt shop. I believe that although some businesses have returned to New Orleans after the devastation of Katrina, quilt shops had not yet returned at the time that I was there. I will be using this fabric to make myself a table topper to remind me of my visit to New Orleans and Louisiana.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />

The last shop that I visited on the shop hop was Two Thimbles, also in Bellingham.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhGQSE2AijCzBNTAFk6-fT5EV0MuG5KGhMKvGD0sbiUd97tBRjJy6nJ5BVO4jCBNtsAWzFQ0LVGgSiJrjuJCmUridwzP0ejvpS84M_FAeUeut8DSLLEBy2PYSjz0SqLbR3-bsVhQg/s1600/DSCN1576.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="193" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhGQSE2AijCzBNTAFk6-fT5EV0MuG5KGhMKvGD0sbiUd97tBRjJy6nJ5BVO4jCBNtsAWzFQ0LVGgSiJrjuJCmUridwzP0ejvpS84M_FAeUeut8DSLLEBy2PYSjz0SqLbR3-bsVhQg/s320/DSCN1576.JPG" width="320" /></a></div><br />
This is Two Thimbles' version of the quilt shop hop quilt. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiuwT1wYmxGHN4DaqNmNdFrlUmrXMpv7OadvmenWA7yF_kvRCGz21G0sLbagF9axTBvklc1fr30nefc3wu_Uc2gRfzHGVJ3roS4nxQJPN9m10dG1PZguNY2kTFpNNWOFusqj82WhA/s1600/DSCN1574.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="239" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiuwT1wYmxGHN4DaqNmNdFrlUmrXMpv7OadvmenWA7yF_kvRCGz21G0sLbagF9axTBvklc1fr30nefc3wu_Uc2gRfzHGVJ3roS4nxQJPN9m10dG1PZguNY2kTFpNNWOFusqj82WhA/s320/DSCN1574.JPG" width="320" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />
</div>I picked up two fabrics at Two Thimbles--a green and a brown. My daughter is getting married in September and her colours are green, brown, and champagne. I have a lot of greens in my stash, but as I said before, very little in the way of browns. This brown had so many shades of brown in it, I thought I couldn't go wrong picking some of this one up. The woman in the shop told me that this particular brown is very popular with the local quilters as it covers a wide range of shades of brown.<br />

Valentine's Day may be long past, but I only just took the last stitches on my Valentine's Day quilt this weekend. Late for this year - early for next year!<br />
<br />

This is a table runner made from St. Patrick's Day fabric sent to me from my FAB pal, Pam. Pam sent the fabric to me back in 2008. I made the flimsy right away, I only did the quilting this weekend. I took the last stitches in the binding tonight. There seems to be a theme here--late for this year, early for next year.<br />

The strategy of loading the Fall Rail Fence quilt last weekend so that I could make passes on the long arm as I had a few minutes during the week seems to have worked. I finished the quilting on this one Friday night. <br />
<br />
The quilting pattern is called, Swirls.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgbeSeQGQFAoWMiz19o64nqHkk6DoFA4D20FWCA0Vw7gZhBKRE-ImcBHIIK9p48klaW5vWD-hj1jHssTyzXrrkteQi1oWwlZms67gKJiDkexL8ts0QS7lXnZS4RUCTkLWr-Y1lgsw/s1600/DSC_0225.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgbeSeQGQFAoWMiz19o64nqHkk6DoFA4D20FWCA0Vw7gZhBKRE-ImcBHIIK9p48klaW5vWD-hj1jHssTyzXrrkteQi1oWwlZms67gKJiDkexL8ts0QS7lXnZS4RUCTkLWr-Y1lgsw/s320/DSC_0225.JPG" width="212" /></a></div><br />
This is the backing. I love the trees and bright background on this one.<br />
<br />
I now need a strategy to get the binding attached!Silverthimblehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17921807595542164387noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-20451069.post-22579049178723222462012-03-18T20:41:00.000-07:002012-03-18T20:41:19.359-07:00Happy Birthday, Mom!<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiilpNAxZnYU2QaUj6xJerNBtLqhCFbpio045VxRG2JH8ebIzlR-lKN3q_oA-ktvsx0b170vlNuhuuJHB-wzH323kqLH1kztP_e23isODwA1LSspTwlXsShaLAVtyVpi9X0dIYAMQ/s1600/DSC_0211.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiilpNAxZnYU2QaUj6xJerNBtLqhCFbpio045VxRG2JH8ebIzlR-lKN3q_oA-ktvsx0b170vlNuhuuJHB-wzH323kqLH1kztP_e23isODwA1LSspTwlXsShaLAVtyVpi9X0dIYAMQ/s320/DSC_0211.JPG" width="212" /></a></div><br />
This is a picture of my Mom, taken last Wednesday on her birthday. I can't tell you how old she is, but I can tell you it was a milestone birthday and she doesn't look her age! The flowers were from my brother and his family. I wanted to get both the flowers and my Mom in the same picture so Mom crouched down behind the kitchen counter for the picture.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgow0RfFJqY3dsTd2YPV1ULOJ3187k-lRXcgvhawe_tgZRl9dOzPKt329kFFZx6aCygdwduWzKY3CyrzEHcJnZdlacHzT3DznmH558z-6i4It8Gn7U6_dWXJ4YZcFNGMQhz_Gw-LA/s320/DSC_0217.JPG" width="226" /></div><div align="left" class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"></div><br />
Our weather has not been very spring-like. The only flowers that will survive right now are flowers inside the house. I made my Mom this daffodil table runner and matching hot pad. On my Mom's birthday, she got to see the table runner as a flimsy. I finished the quilting today and delivered it to her today as a finished table runner. <br />
<br />
The table runner finishes at 17" x 43.5". The pattern is, "#144 - It's Fast, It's Easy" by Canadian designer Ursula Riegel of Designs to Share With You. <a href="http://www.designstoshare.com/patterns/index.php5">http://www.designstoshare.com/patterns/index.php5</a><br />

</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">This quilt was inspired by a quilt in the January 1999 issue of Traditional Quilter called, Christmas Village. I started making my quilt just after the magazine was issued so I can easily date this UFO! </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiiDHQKt1TlzmTHm8SdKF3pRyW3zCS-S7zRFPGa0U3UnLHlzKyzm28EINlDT8EdDhkgEq92uo_572JuaEjU3RpjeWvL-4qbyIVBXiVGEL2FhMfPWSIb75B3Hp8wWfCib27Vq0UPmQ/s1600/gc5194929480780243511.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiiDHQKt1TlzmTHm8SdKF3pRyW3zCS-S7zRFPGa0U3UnLHlzKyzm28EINlDT8EdDhkgEq92uo_572JuaEjU3RpjeWvL-4qbyIVBXiVGEL2FhMfPWSIb75B3Hp8wWfCib27Vq0UPmQ/s1600/gc5194929480780243511.jpg" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">The quilt in the magazine had the same 3" rail fence blocks as the center of my quilt. The differences in the two quilts are in the border treatments. Christmas Village had a border comprised of paper-pieced house and tree blocks that were supposed to look like streets in a village. By the time I had the center of this quilt put together I was starting to second guess whether or not I wanted to paper piece the village blocks for my quilt. I decided that a quilt top that has aged on the shelf for 13 years needs to be finished--paper pieced border or not! I added a simple gold inner border and a wide sunflower outer border to finish off my version. </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">This quilt is now 69.5" x 87" and was loaded on the long arm Sunday night. I made a pass Sunday night and will take a pass now and then as I have time. Before I know it, this one will be quilted and ready for binding.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />

</div><div style="clear: both; text-align: left;">This is my Bryce Canyon inspired quilt. The pattern is Fire Escape by Terry Atkinson of Atkinson Designs. This quilt top is lap size--approximately 60" x 72"</div><div style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div style="clear: both; text-align: left;">I picked out the batiks a week ago at my LQS and last Friday I spent the morning washing and drying the fabrics. I started to cut the strips later in the day--only intending to do the cutting--kit the quilt so that when I was ready later to sew, everything would be ready. Once I started working with the fabrics, I couldn't stop. I finally called it a night just after midnight Friday night with about 2/3 of the sewing done. I was able to do a bit of stitching Saturday between errands and a family potluck dinner with the last seam stitched Sunday night. Tonight I finished another flimsy. Three finishes in one weekend is a record for me.<br />
<br />
After finishing Popsicle Sticks on Friday night and Got Stripes? on Saturday night, I was ready for a reward project today. It is nice to be able to decide on a project and make it entirely from your stash.<br />
<br />
This top was made from a panel that I had in my stash for quite some time. I used Kari Nichols' pattern Sidelights. Because my panel was not the size that Kari had in her pattern, I had to make some adjustments to the pattern. This panel was not perfectly square which added to the challenges of putting together this quilt top.<br />
<br />
This quilt top finishes at 47" x 54".Silverthimblehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17921807595542164387noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-20451069.post-66275225477286173282012-02-12T10:00:00.036-08:002012-11-27T19:10:00.333-08:00Got Stripes? - Finished Flimsy<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I finished "Got Stripes?" to the flimsy stage last night. It took most of yesterday to get the two borders on. It always amazes me how long it takes to measure, cut, and attach borders to the perimeter of a large quilt. I usually underestimate the time I need for this task.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
This one is technically queen size, but I think it would fit a king size bed too as I made the outer border wider than the pattern said. I took the border fabric I had on hand and figured out how many pieces I needed, did the math, and made the border the corresponding width. The only piece of fabric left was the piece that was trimmed off in the beginning when I was squaring up the fabric--every other last bit was used! I love no leftovers! </div>

Popsicle Sticks is a finished flimsy as of last night.<br />
<br />
This is a big quilt - King size - finishing at 112" x 112". This quilt looks larger than it is when it is draped over my bed as my bed is only a Queen size.<br />

Today, we had more of the white stuff.<br />
<br />
I guess it was premature to think that winter was on its way out!<br />

Although the ice coating on everything is pretty, it is definitely not safe to be driving or walking in this weather.<br />

It was safe to stay inside and quilt though. :)<br />
<br />
By 11:00 pm, I had finished making all the blocks for the Got Stripes quilt - with the exception of one. I was short a green background strip. I need to cut some green background pieces to finish the last block and to replace some pieces in a block that is already pieced into the quilt top. I made the mistake of reversing one piece of background fabric--front for back so I will need to do some reverse sewing. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh58pSKhwMTrs4eMpL-w73o-sYj3ZzLvu3z1AmvC3GSUreSyPGr8lm8QdMHdGpUlrE7iSQBAVkOzPcOGvvhzMjfM2U7y49GGxZhxoXA7wOKrc-CCgQrLXhulnp4jzEvWo-cBFVvsQ/s1600/DSC_0032.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh58pSKhwMTrs4eMpL-w73o-sYj3ZzLvu3z1AmvC3GSUreSyPGr8lm8QdMHdGpUlrE7iSQBAVkOzPcOGvvhzMjfM2U7y49GGxZhxoXA7wOKrc-CCgQrLXhulnp4jzEvWo-cBFVvsQ/s320/DSC_0032.JPG" width="320" /></a></div><br />
I also finished the binding on my Fire Escape quilt. After finishing the binding, I spread the quilt out over the table to take a picture. <br />
<br />

A picture without the flash shows the colours of the quilt to be a little closer to reality and shows the swirl quilting design a little better.<br />

<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh1PDAOMqA6PILp4CJu50UNljzy8Gk_CoxdLsnO8DXtgRAsQVedaS3UgOxaUkKwMCC2jtvGQy4B8tjX9Wi5bcBzO4v1xWrmlTiBFtVBFXJP3BoU7AycDGXBNe8gkJXUot5sr8NT1Q/s1600/DSC_0015.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh1PDAOMqA6PILp4CJu50UNljzy8Gk_CoxdLsnO8DXtgRAsQVedaS3UgOxaUkKwMCC2jtvGQy4B8tjX9Wi5bcBzO4v1xWrmlTiBFtVBFXJP3BoU7AycDGXBNe8gkJXUot5sr8NT1Q/s320/DSC_0015.JPG" width="212" /></a></div><br />
The snow continued to fall here last night. The snow mixed with high winds (60 to 80 km/hr) resulted in white out conditions and a bit of a wild drive to work today. <br />

On the quilting front, progress is being made on piecing the blocks for Got Stripes and on attaching the binding to Fire Escape.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhAnZsMn3XjrZ-_jtZ8n_DHTNd7LSkzAc7UpU9eOSwzwMYdOyd9POhMbaE3FrVfxCxpxUDkQAfz4D3Kl6WnJNOtA1GDQkkfp6buQlFNicFJodc-sd8s4kGJjxmi1lgOOyMjL78Exw/s1600/DSC_0032.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="256" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhAnZsMn3XjrZ-_jtZ8n_DHTNd7LSkzAc7UpU9eOSwzwMYdOyd9POhMbaE3FrVfxCxpxUDkQAfz4D3Kl6WnJNOtA1GDQkkfp6buQlFNicFJodc-sd8s4kGJjxmi1lgOOyMjL78Exw/s320/DSC_0032.JPG" width="320" /></a></div><br />
I am currently working on row 7 of 11 on Got Stripes. Rows 1 to 5 are completely joined together. Row 6 blocks are joined to one another but row 6 is not yet joined to rows 1 to 5. I have just started working on row 7 - only one star block assembled so far on that row.<br />
<br />

The binding has been attached to Fire Escape. When I can steal a few moments, I work on hand stitching the binding to the back of the quilt.Silverthimblehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17921807595542164387noreply@blogger.com2
